Camera, Work and Weddings

I haven’t had much time to write much on this blog lately. I’ve been too busy with work, the wedding and life to sit and type. Even if it is therapeutic, there just doesn’t seem to be enough time; or rather, I am not spending my time wisely.

Camera

To date, I’ve taken about 12 photos with my new camera. Not great at all. I was fooling around with the Adobe RAW plug-in that comes with Adobe Photoshop CS (not CS2) that work provides. I can say one thing: my Compaq laptop is no match for editing RAW image files.

Technical note: Adobe Photoshop CS (version 8) does not understand the .NEF format that Nikon uses. You need to convert them to the .DNG format (Adobe’s public archiving standard) using their free converter. It’s time consuming. You’ll need either the Adobe Lightroom Beta or upgrade to Photoshp CS2 to use the Nikon pictures.

I wonder how my workstation will handle it? It’s no speed demon, but it’s got to be faster than the laptop. Maybe I’ll upgrade to the new Core2 Duo CPUs that Intel released.

Work goes on and on and on

Creative Design is a finicky thing. So much change is happening at the industry. Internally we are reorganizing—which is exciting and scary all at the same time. Will I still be a manager?

To see where the industry is going, I recommend you download Clement Mok’s presentation and podcast from the Institute of Design’s Strategy Conference 06.

You can download his presentation here [PPT 13 MB] and the accompanying podcast here [M4A 19.4 MB].

On a side note, my company is supporting Macs now. I think I will be upgrading to a shiny new MacBook Pro soon.

Wedding Bells: They ring and ring and ring.

Went to my first Bollywood style wedding. I’ll upload the pictures to Flickr soon.

As for Jen and I, things are moving forward (better than backwards, or up or down or twirling, twirling…). Our invitations are set to be finished tomorrow, and we’ll start the delivery process immediately.

My design turned out well. Although I wished I had used a high-gloss varnish. That would have been money.

We went back to Victor (the jeweller who made Jen’s engagement ring) and got our wedding bands set.

So most of the major stuff is all settled.

The 2-month body transformation program is going smoothly, I’ve managed to cut down the amount of food I eat by a large margin, so that is good. I injured my knee running and have been using the recline bike recently. Need to do it more often and up the intensity.

That’s all for now.
