So Friday night, after I got back from Art and Flo’s house and after I had a rousing chat with Miriam (who is doing a 1-year OT gig in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut), I logged onto my computer to google more about a DVI cable issue with my TV. Basically, I can’t display my computer screen through my DVI cable using the ATI drivers for my 9600Pro. (It is definitely a driver issue).
While googling, it turns out that there was a recall on my TV last spring. I was trolling the net for DVI issues and I found it out at Digital Home Canada
Back in 2004, I purchased my TV after months of research. One of the deciding features that really interested me about the LG sets was the fact that it had a HD2+ chip (3rd generation DLP chip manufactured by Texas Instruments).
As it turns out, my model (the RU-44SZ61D, as well as the RU-52SZ61D) was not manufactured with the much vaunted HD2+, but rather with the older (and serviceable, mind you) HD2 chip.
UPDATE: Turns out that sets with manufacturing dates post-July 2004 have the HD2+ chips. My set was manufactured in April 2004.
I WAS LIVID.
I can’t even articulate how angry I was. To spend $5000+ dollars on a TV and not get the technology that I paid for. Wow. I definitely had a “White hot rage” moment (as my buddy David would say).
So I contacted LGe Canada’s Technical support. I don’t expect much, but I intend to take this to the end. I am very upset that as a person who registered their TV, they did not contact me.
Back in 2005, LGe Canada did replace the TV between March and July. 5 months is unacceptable. They also didn’t publicize it.
