Running day 1: 4.02 km in 30.35

Since I was working at home today, I figured that I should go running. It was 12C today—great weather.

I had planned to run the standard Davisville Rd. to Saint Claire Ave route. However, I was suffering from a massive right shin splint at the 1/2 way mark. Terrible. I ran too quickly. I walked the rest of the way to Mount Pleasant Cemetery. I guess I felt embarrassed, so I cut a path through the cemetery to avoid the public.

I deduced after the big curve north that the reason for my shin splints were my shoes; they were too loose. I had just slipped them on without bothering to tie them. Dumb.

I did fartlets the rest of the way back to improve general muscle fitness.

Total distance: 4.02 km
Time (including walking): 31 min 35 sec

Finished off with stretches and some calisthenics.

After today’s poor performance, I think I’m going to cut down the distance and try to increase the number of times I’m out on the road.
