Wii Impressions
Having had the Wii since launch day, I can say with authority that Nintendo truly delivered on the goods.
It’s just so much fun to play. The look on my friend’s faces is extraordinary. A true revolution.
I haven’t had a chance to dive into Zelda yet, but it looks awesome.
Hawaii Pictures
Still working on the Hawaii pictures. I’ve been using NX Capture (a new Nikon Raw processing application), everything I’ve read about it is true. The new interface is cool; very innovative, but not without its quirks. However, there are some performance issues that it needs to overcome (file browser is unreasonably slow). I’m glad that it works with JPEG files. I now realise the advantages of RAW. I will always shoot in RAW format if I can help it.
Overall, I’m pretty happy with NX Capture. However, in the end, I think Adobe Camera Raw is more advantageous because of its bulk picture ability.
Obsolescence
At work, I’ve been allotted a pretty nice notebook computer: a Dell D620. It has one of those 2.13 GHz Core 2 Duo Intel CPUs. I’ve been dying to test it out against my aging workstation (Athlon MP 2.13 GHz). Today, I finally got Photoshop installed on the notebook.
I ran a simple Photoshop benchmark between the two systems that I found online. The net result: Dell notebook: 210 seconds. Athlon MP: 435 seconds.
I’m shocked.
I bought my workstation in 2003. It was pretty high-end at the time. In 3 1/2 years, real-world performance has doubled!
Makes me want to get a new computer.
Cheers,
Tai
