Nokia, you suck at UI Design

UPDATE: Started following the Maemo5 teams twitter feed. There’s a really slick Interaction Demo of the the N900. It’s impressive, but I remain unconvinced. They need to get the basics right or they will be doomed to failure. Admittedly, I want to be convinced, though.

Here’s a leaked press release image of the n900 Rover. It’s Nokia’s newest n-series device and it’s based on Maemo, Nokia’s homegrown Linux distribution that has been featured on the n770, n800 and n810 line of Internet tablets. The n900 Rover is the first web tablet to sport cellular calling / network access.

I realize that this is a press release image and probably a Photoshop comp, but if this is an actual representation of your new high-end mobile OS, Nokia clearly needs to hire better UX designers.

How do I:

  1. Access my contacts?
  2. Conference in another user?
  3. Mute the call? or
  4. Put the person on hold?

You have screen that is 800×480 pixels dense, you can at least show the actual number that I’m calling.

For the past 4 years, I’ve slagged through Symbian S60, I bought an n800 Web Tablet, but it is now clear to me that you are a dinosaur and that there are greener pastures available.

I haven’t recommended a Nokia phone since the n95. I will never recommend a Nokia phone, ever.
