Emulating games

I’ve grown quite used to having my PC workstation connected to my HDTV. The box is loud, hot and it adds to my hydro bill, I’m sure. However, I really like being able to swtich to a different video input on my TV and surf the net. Very convenient.

One thing I’ve started doing is priming myself for the purchase of the Nintendo Wii. Yes, I have fallen for the Hype and intend to purchase it when it is released this November.

To that I’ve started emulating N64 games. I’ve never owned a video game console before, so this is pretty exciting.

I’ve started with the best: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

The emulator is called Project64 v1.6. It’s great that you can pump up the resolution (1024×768), anisotrophic filtering (16x) and antiliasing (8x). It really makes the game look great on a 44” widescreen TV. It also helps that I have an ATI X1600Pro with 512 MB of RAM.

This is what the game normally looks like on an N64:

Man. What a difference.
